Ashley Madison Hack

In the July of 2015, a popular extramarital affair website, Ashley Madison, was hacked into and the identities of millions of users was leaked to the public. This event has numerous social implications associated with it that affect society as a whole, the people who used the site, their families, and even me. First of all, this hack affects society because it shows just how unsafe our online information truly is. No matter how "protected" or "secure" a website may claim to be, there is always a way that hackers can get to it. This hack affects the users of the site in a substantial way was well. Millions of these users of the site had loving families which were ruined by this leak. This information was so devastating that some users even committed suicide. The families were left smitten with grief, not only due to the fact that they cheated on their wives, but also that they've been living and hiding this secret life from them. This hack also affects me as an individual, even though I had nothing to do with it. This leak displays how nobody's information is truly safe on the internet. There is always a company who has access to it, and there are always hackers who can get access to it, no matter how "safe" or "secure" the site claims to be. The only reliable way to not have valuable information leaked onto the internet is to not have it on there in the first place. By limited the information you put onto the internet to only what is necessary, you can be assured that there will not be anything you do not want leaked onto the internet, since it wasn't even there in the first place. Never put anything that you will regret onto the internet, because even if you try and delete it, it will always be there in some, shape, or form.
